where to buy sim cards in europe? are they cheaper than in the us?

i know sim cards are relatively easy to find in europe.
but as an american tourist, where can i easily buy a cheap sim card to call back home while in Paris, Barcelona/Madrid?
I imagine airports must have them? or convenience shops? Has anyone purchased them from Charles de Gaulle or other airports? Do you know what the rates were?
Some US companies sell sim cards to be used in Europe for making calls to the US at $.90/min, which is almost as much as what T-mobile charges for international roaming, but I believe SIM cards bought in Europe are even cheaper. Is that true?

Yeah! What is your problem for making your trip look like “go to work” Do you go on vacation only to call home? Yes they have sim cards in Europe (They invented them) so you can buy them almost everywhere and what is the problem for a few penny more ore less to call mum & dad…
